Curaçao's currency is the Antillian guilder. The (Dutch) guilder was introduced on the Antilles in 1828. In 1940, as a direct result of the war, the Antillian guilder was detached from the Dutch guilder and has since been attached to the United States dollar. The exchange rate is 1 USD = 1,78 ANG. The following coins are in use: - 1, 5, 10 en 25 cent and coins of 1 and 5 guilders The following notes are in use: - 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 guilders Besides the guilder, the US dollar is accepted everywhere although change will often be given in guilders. Euro's aren't widely accepted, but can of course be exchanged at a bank office. Banks can be found all over the island. Most of them are opened from 8 AM until 4 PM. Some banks, like most shops, close for lunch between noon and 2 PM. Curaçao's largest banks are: Banco di Caribe Girobank MCB Bank Orcobank SFT Bank  Major credit cards (Visa, EuroCard/Master Card, Diners Club & American Express) are accepted in a lot of places. ATM's are available for withdrawing
cash, provided your bank card has the Cirrus logo displayed. |
